KINESIOLOGISTS BRISBANE - PETER O'NEILL NATURAL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS

Peter O'Neill

During my early twenties I was a keen sportsman, playing and competing in various sports such as taekwondo, boxing, football and waterskiing.  With all this sport, I was a  regular at many natural health clinics.  My neck and lower back were in constant pain. I would have muscle spasms, pulls, twinges, headaches and cramps. Chiropractic treatments did give me some relief but I found that it was often short lived, and most corrections did not seem to last very long.

I came across a chiropractor in Sydney that also practised kinesiology and my experience this first day was quite different. He adjusted my neck and then started waving my arm up and down (kinesiology) and told me that I have an emotion stuck in my neck! I was about 21 years old at the time and said that I don’t have emotions, I just have a sore neck.

I was a "meat and three veg" kind of guy back then, and he said that the emotion was abandonment. It was to do with my father and the original time I experienced the emotion was at the age of three.

I was amazed because my parents had divorced when I was three - well, it was more like an abandonment from my father! I remember saying “but so what, I’m over that now.”  He told me that issues from the past can still be triggered off, so whenever I feel abandoned or rejected etc then the neck gets triggered too. I remember realising that I did trigger to rejection and abandonment more than I thought I ought to at the time. He released the emotional block from my body and, what do you know, the correction held for the first time ever!

I found that most of my recurring pains and health concerns had emotional issues attached to them and were holding me back. I went to see this practitioner quite regularly and I watched not only my physical and nutritional health improve but also my awareness and yearning to understand the nature of the mind, emotions and life itself. This led to attending all manner of seminars and workshops and the study of eastern philosophy.

In my mid-twenties I became a vegetarian and ‘abandoned’ the corporate world to start up a vegetarian cafe in Sydney . The vegetarian part only lasted a few years but eating fresh and healthy melas and the love of food still remains today. While at the cafe I started attending kinesiology courses and by the age of 30 I was fully qualified and started my own practice on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland.

With my foundations in the physical I started as a Sports Kinesiologist and with a diploma in Neural Organisation Technique focused on the various twists and pulls within the body which underlie neck and back pain and conditions like scoliosis. What I found, like the chiropractor above, was that corrections would not hold if there were emotional blocks and subconscious belief sabotages in the way.

For the last 10 years I have been designing kinesiology systems that combine the full triad of health. I started teaching life improvement and kinesiology workshops in the late nineties and still do today. My quest has been to teach concepts and techniques that are earthy, usable and that worked for me, my family and many clients. I found that my gift is to be able to simplify the complex and teach and treat in a way that is inspiring and motivational.

The last 5 years have seen my career also move in the direction of professional sport motivation and corporate performance coaching as well as teaching seminars and workshops all over the country and a few abroad.  Private kinesiology treatments still plays a very important role in my career with almost half of my clients now coming for issues such as depression, anxiety and relationship stress.

In my personal life, sport and fitness is still vital in maintaining life balance. I am a black belt in taekwondo and assist teaching at BTC (Brisbane Taekwondo Centre), where I also hold my kinesiology treatments. I also run free stretch-out-the-stress and meditation classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the centre.
